Boost your ATAR
If you successfully complete both semesters of Extension and any preparatory VCE Units 3 and 4 (if not already completed), you will earn an increment on your Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). The increment is added to the aggregate from which the ATAR is derived. Monash Extension subjects can be counted as a fifth or sixth subject.
The ATAR increment is calculated as follows:
Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
- 5.0 where a student averages at least 90
- 4.5 where a student averages at least 80 but less than 90
- 4.0 where a student averages at least 70 but less than 80
- 3.5 where a student averages at least 60 but less than 70
- 3.0 where a student averages at least 50 but less than 60
International Baccalaureate (IB)
- Unfortunately there is no increment available for students studying the IB
Get credit when you start university
If you successfully complete Monash Extension and subsequently enrol in a related Monash university course, you may be granted credit for your Extension study. Other universities and tertiary institutions may also grant credit for Monash Extension if the subjects fit into their course structure.
Get a taste for university life
Start university early and extend your knowledge in a field you love! University is often less-structured than school and the intellectual challenge will really give you something to explore. Learn to motivate yourself, work independently and get onto the fast-track for university success.
As a Monash Extension student you can access resources not normally available to Year 12 students, like:
- Monash libraries
- our study skills centre
- a Monash email address and computer access
- access to online learning facilities and research
- interaction with academic staff.
You'll find more about the resources you can access on the current students website.
Intellectual challenge
You'll be intellectually challenged in a unique learning style that other Year 12 students do not have access to. Your lecturers are world-leading experts and you'll study with other university students.
Meet like-minded students
When you attend classes you will meet peers of similar high academic ability from different schools.
Receive an academic prize
The Monash Extension team commends all Monash Extension students for their work, and hosts a graduation ceremony at the end of the academic year. The highest achieving students from each subject area receive a certificate and prize for outstanding achievement.
Go to exclusive events
As a Monash Extension student, you will be invited to attend special events throughout the year.
